Here's what people are asking about the YLC!

This new initiative will network, train, and mentor a select number of emerging young Christian leaders to collectively influence their world as they become firmly rooted in the person and message of Jesus.

Each YLC workshop builds practical leadership skills that students can use right away in their youth group, school, home, and future workplace, all grounded in a growing faith in Jesus.

Crucial Conversations: Students learn to handle difficult, high-stakes conversations with honesty and respect. They practise staying calm under pressure, speaking up when it matters, listening well, and finding common ground instead of avoiding conflict or escalating it.

Emotional Intelligence: Students grow in self-awareness and self-control, learning to recognize and manage their own emotions, read the emotions of others, and respond with empathy. These skills are the foundation of healthy relationships and trusted leadership.

Driving Needs: Students discover what motivates them, and what drives their behaviour under stress. They also learn to recognize the needs behind other people’s actions, so they can communicate with more understanding and lead people well.

Gallup Strengths: Students identify their natural, God-given talents and learn to lead from their strengths instead of their weaknesses. They also learn to value the different strengths of others and build teams where everyone contributes their best.

Covey’s Time Management: Students learn to prioritize what’s truly important over what only feels urgent. They practise planning their time, balancing school, faith, family, and commitments, and saying “no” so they can say “yes” to what matters most.

The Big Picture: Students learn how great teams collaborate and communicate. They see how their role fits within a shared vision, how to work through differences, and how to move together toward a common goal.

Together, these workshops help young leaders discover their God-given gifts and purpose, connect with others more effectively, and influence their world for Jesus.

The YLC comes to you. Our facilitator travels to your church to run hands-on leadership workshops with your student leaders and youth group, at minimal cost to your church. Everything is prepared ahead of time, so youth leaders can simply be present with their students.

You choose the dates and the workshops that best fit your group. Workshop options include Crucial Conversations, Emotional Intelligence, Driving Needs, Gallup Strengths, Covey’s Time Management, and The Big Picture (team collaboration and communication). Each one is designed to help young leaders grow in their faith, discover their God-given gifts, and influence their world for Jesus.

The short answer is no. However, churches that are part of the CBOQ family will have priority, and in joining this program you are recognizing that this leads from a position of the beliefs and values of CBOQ.

While we will customize each workshop to your needs, the workshops range in time from 90 minutes to a full day of training.
